Multi-resolution visualization of large 4D data sets – Yang Yang
Abstract:
The continuing growth in size of modern scientific data sets makes it difficult to conduct efficient interaction with a relatively small main memory. In order to conquer this problem, we have investigated to represent data sets in a multi-resolution structure. The appropriate level of resolution is loaded into main memory dynamically according to the size of the memory and the required rendering frame rate. A region of interest (ROI) is defined to be inspected in high quality by sacrificing the size of the rendering volume, and in the meantime a time window is kept in memory to provide a fluent playback and an efficient interaction.
